Rob Fox focuses his practice on family law, administrative and regulatory matters, general civil litigation, and appeals. 

Rob is an experienced litigator with nearly 25 years of practice.

He is no stranger to high-stakes and high-profile cases. Rob has successfully defended a $4.1 million fine before both the state Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. Additionally, at trial, Rob obtained a $1.3 million fine against a company and its owners for usurious lending practices, and then successfully defended the case on appeal.

In the family law arena, Rob assists clients with no-fault and uncontested divorces; fault-based and contested divorces; property division; spousal support; negotiated settlement agreements; custody, visitation, and child support; post-divorce modification and enforcement matters; premarital agreements; protective orders; and appeals. Rob can help you navigate the legal and emotional challenges that family law situations present.

In the administrative and regulatory law arena, Rob assists individual and business clients obtain licenses and other required government authorizations and approvals, and defends both licensees and unlicensed persons in disputes, enforcement actions, and other adverse proceedings before all governmental regulatory bodies (including the agencies, boards and commissions of the Commonwealth, such as the State Corporation Commission and the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation and its various boards), and with appeals associated therewith. Having worked for aggressive regulators in Florida, Rob knows what it's like for people to face off against the government, and he can help you level the playing field.

Prior to joining Coates & Davenport, Rob worked at a boutique family law firm here in Richmond. Before that, he served as a senior attorney with both the Department of Financial Services and the Office of Financial Regulation.
